Hot tubs are the epitome of relaxation and luxury, providing the perfect escape from the stresses of day-to-day life. As the cost of living continues to increase, and the desire to reduce spending remains at the forefront of people’s minds, there is one question that we are getting frequently asked by both new and experienced hot tub owners – ‘do I really need to get my hot tub serviced?’. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of hot tub servicing, what a service involves and when is the best time to schedule one.
What is a hot tub service?
A hot tub service refers to a comprehensive maintenance and inspection process carried out by a professional. These are carried out to ensure that a hot tub or spa is functioning optimally and safely, but the specific tasks involved within a service will vary depending on the service provider, the make of the hot tub, and the type of service that you opt for.
What does a hot tub service include?
As mentioned above, this can vary greatly depending on your service provider and package. Typically, a general service will include:
- A Thorough Clean
- Water Testing and Balancing
- Inspection of Components, Electrics, Plumbing and Seals
- Heater and Temperature Calibration
- Jet and Blower Functionality
- Filter Cleaning/Replacement
- Advice and Recommendations
Why get your hot tub serviced?
Prolongs the Lifespan
If you ask someone why they get their car serviced, their first answer will typically be to prolong their vehicle’s life span. Hot tub servicing is pretty much the same, and can significantly extend your spa’s lifespan. During a service, Technicians can identify and fix small issues before they become major problems, saving you from costly repairs or the need for a premature replacement.
Maintain Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency is a hot topic in today’s world, and your hot tub is no exception. A properly serviced hot tub is more energy-efficient, which translates to lower energy bills. Technicians will inspect and clean components such as pumps, heaters, and filters to ensure they are functioning optimally, helping you save money in the long run.
Preventing Costly Repairs
Small issues can quickly escalate into costly repairs if left unattended. By scheduling regular servicing, you can catch and address these minor problems early on. This proactive approach can save you from unexpected repair bills that could have been easily avoided.
Ensuring Optimal Performance
Over time, various elements such as dirt, debris, and chemical imbalances can impact the performance of your hot tub. Regular servicing involves cleaning and balancing the water chemistry, ensuring that the water is safe and properly treated. This means that a well-serviced hot tub can continue to operate at peak performance. Additionally, the technician can assess the water circulation, jet functionality, and heating efficiency to maintain the ideal experience.
When to get your hot tub serviced/what services are available?
As a general rule of thumb, we recommend getting your hot tub serviced every year once it is two years old. At Spafix, we offer four main types of routine maintenance;
Spafix Once is a full annual clean and maintenance service. This service includes a deep clean of your hot tub, a full maintenance and performance check including inspection of pipework and glue joints, as well as a shock treatment, biofilm remover, and chemical balance. Our trained technicians will also make notes of any suggested repairs, and sign off this service with the customer.
Are you struggling to find the time to keep on top of maintaining your hot tub? Spafix Easyfresh is a quarterly, clean, drain and re-fill service, which can be carried out more frequently if preferred. During this visit, we will also clean your cover and filters and top up your chemicals. This service is perfect for the average busy worker who is perhaps struggling to find the time to keep on top of the Hot tub maintenance.
Spafix Hibernate is our winter shut-down service which prepares your spa for the months it won’t be used. This service includes a deep clean and drain down, then locking the Spa down for winter. Ensuring your spa is decommissioned properly over the winter is essential to avoid freezing pipe conditions which can lead to cracking in the plumbing or even the Spa shell or components.
Our Spafix Start service is ideal for a Spring re-commission. It covers all the points of a Spafix Once but we do recommend a re-drain and fill a few weeks after recommissioning for optimum results.
Looking to spread the costs?
We recognise that you want your hot tub ready to use when you want to use it throughout the year. A Spafix Maintenance Contract spreads the cost over a full 12 months to help you avoid any ‘One-off’ hefty bills. We offer a FREE, no obligation site survey to verify that your hot tub is in a suitable condition to be able to offer a Maintenance Contract. We will advise you of the most appropriate standard of cover to suit the present use of your hot tub and how best to proceed should there be any repairs or new parts needed prior to acceptance of the scheme.
